need advice about best fabric weight
Hi! So I have over 100 pieced squares made out of my kids' baby clothes ... many are thicker than a typical cotton - as many are knit fabric (I have used interfacing). When I assemble, I want to add border strips along sides of each large square - how important would it be to have the strips be "thicker" than typical. Does it matter? (I am new to this) As if I need thicker material, any recommendations? we thought of a light denim??

I have made many T-shirt, Jersey and memory- clothing quilts. I use regular cotton fabric ( same as I use in most of my quilts) for sashing, borders, blocks. The quilts have all turned out great- no issues with different weights.
this hockey Jersey quilt is sashed, put together with a burgundy cotton fabric. |
Thank you SO much! I headed here first thing hoping someone had some thoughts for me. I am super grateful!

When you are mixing fabric types to make such a special quilt it is ok, and recommended to use 100% cotton, which is used for most quilting projects. It is good to hear you stabilized your knit and other loose fabric types. You may find others jumping in to give you ideas too. Have a lot of fun.

Denim after all lol
I ended up getting a very light-weight denim after all! LOL We decided that because it was a quilt of clothes, the denim fit perfectly.
