Hi - I am making a Carpenter's Wheel quilt for my sister and her husband for their anniversary. This is the second quilt I have ever made, and the only one big enough to fit on a Queen Size bed. I put a border on 3 sides of the quilt top, but left the "top" edge to be just bound. But I am now wondering if I should put a border on the top too. That way, the quilt will have a border on all four sides. Can anyone suggest the better way of doing this? I want to have it look as good as I can.
Thanks! Terry |
I would put borders on all 4 sides. Post a picture when you are finished.

I think you will be happier with the overall look of the quilt if you put all four borders on. It may not look "finished" if you leave one off.

I agree - think you will be happier if you put the border on all four sides.

I also like the look of the border going around all 4 sides. Hugs and smiles, would love to see a photo of your quilts.

I put borders on all four sides of my quilts. I think you would be happier if you did too. I also would love to see a picture. :)

Also, if you put a border on all sides, the quilt can be flipped around so it wears evenly.

I would do a border on all sides, as well for all the reasons stated. Would love to see a picture!

Yeap here too. All 4 sides. Can't wait to see pictures

Thanks everyone! I have already quilted the quilt and the side and bottom borders, so to add another backing/batting/border to the top I think is beyond my abilities right now. So, I am doing some hand embroidery on some of the blocks, and then I will add the binding. Then wash the quilt and dry it and wrap it all up pretty. I will try to post photos before I do the wrapping.
Thanks again for all of your advice and help. Terry |
You would want the quilt top to be centered on the bed. Your borders should be wide enough on the top to accomodate this. My mother has made several large quilts and found that sometimes in order to keep the top centered properly, she had to make a narrower border on the top edge. It still needed a border-just narrower....
