Before you decide, you might want to consider future repairs. Do you have a place that would work on either brand?

I've been researching Juki's myself. My local repairman says they are great! I don't know any Janome places near me, so I've never researched them.

Definately need to see if you have any certified repair shops for either brand close to you. I have a Janome, which I love and want to upgrade to a 7700 BUT... I despise the only Janome dealer near me and I refuse to give them any of my business or money. That being said, I will have to wait for my upgrade. In my personal opinion, I think being unable to get good, reliable and friendly service for your machine is a deal breaker.

I have a Juki TL98Q and I love it. It is the workhorse in my sewing room. I do a lot of quilting with it. I love it for piecing be cause of the 3/16ths compensating foot. Your seams are perfect. My real love is free-motion quilting, I just finished (well, not quite finished as it still needs binding) a king sized radiant star quilt made intirely on the Juki. Also, I just finished all of the applique blocks for the Supreme Snowpeople quilt using Patsy Thompsons EKG free-motion stitch. You would never guess they were done on a machine that only does straight stitch. I will try to post some pictures for you to see.

So, after this long story my best advise is to first decide what you want the machine to do. I do know that Janome machines have a good reputation. Good luck, I equate getting a new machine is more exciting than getting a new car. I spend far more time with my machines.:) Hugs.

There have been several discussions recently about this topic, so do a search to see other posts. Choose the type of machine that has the features that you want. Do you want to do emprodery ETC. , then go to shops and test sew the machine to see which one you like. I bought a Brothers 1500 straight stitch that I love for $600 (LQS was $1000-1300) with free shipping and no tax. Amazon is an authorized Brothers dealer so it will be easy to get fixed. I have another Singer machine for the fancy stitches.

I am researching too! I am leaning towards a gently used Janome 6600 (if I can find one) or a Juki. Its harder to find a Juki dealer around here though...

Ok. I just posted some pic's in the picture section, Supreme Snow People and King sized Radiant Star. All done completely on my Juki.

I have my Juki in a cabinet and love it. Juki machines are heavy duty, have fast speeds, very easy to adjust tensions. I most often quilt with 3 different thread colors. If you look at the pictures of my Radiant star quilt, I used a pink thread in the bobbin and the top has, mono for the ditch work in the star, white thread for the quilting in the white blocks and shashing, pink in the striped border, gray and a rose in the big border. I start quilting in the middle, by fan folding the edge from top to bottom of the throat and puddle the rest. There is a lot of quilting in this quilt, I used over 70 bobbins and it took me about 2 1/2 weeks. It still needs binding, then I will make matching pillow shams, bed skirt and valences. All new look for my bedroom for spring. I do use a 3/16th's compensating foot for piecing, it gives me a perfect scant seam. This foot did not come with my machine and I bought it on ebay for $6. Machine does come with a 1/4th compensating foot. I don't know what the new machines are selling for, I bought mine on sale for under $800. I haven't had any trouble with it in the 3 years that I have owned it. Hope this helps. Hugs.

I would buy the juki if it were me, that machine has gotten some really good reviews, both of those machines are very good for the money. I think the juki's have stronger motors

Look at both of the newest Viking machines. I'm pretty sure they are in your price range and I've had good luck with all of my Vikings. I think the latest ones are called Opal's, I think. You are smart to look around and if possible go to a dealer and try the machines that you are thinking of buying out. If we knew your location I'm sure you could get some good referrals to LQS that are great to deal with and have good support; not all do. The one that I go to is awesome and the people are always helpful and really nice to you. Good luck and make sure you try the machines (and the store) before buying. You can't beat good support when buying a machine no matter what kind it is.

I also have this machine. I tried to sell it on here once. It has lots of feet and hoops and the magic box to hook it up to the pc and has just gotten serviced. It was up here for about a minute and then it was removed because I was told I couldn't sell if for 600. A member said she'd do me a favor and offered me 150 for it. I had stated that the only reason that I was selling it was due to my low life ex walking out and sticking me with bills. I told the member that 150 wasn't doing me a favor it would only benefit her and the next thing you knew, my ad was pulled. When posting on here you can't get the going value for it. It is a great machine and has even been said to be the best machine Viking ever made. I have a Viking Diamond Deluxe and currently have had 4 machines (still have 3) from Viking and they are all great. I'd rather hold onto mine that sell it for 150; that was an insult as far as I was concerned.

I bought the Juki HZL 600 almost a year ago from an online dealer and I love this sewing machine! I haven't had a moments trouble with it since it came out of the box, and when the time comes I will not hesitate to purchase the
TL2010Q to go along beside it.

I just purchased a Brother Innovis 450Q quilting machine. It was around $1000. I did alot of research and having the dealer in my area for service and lessons was important. The price was in my budget.

It came with a good warranty and the first year of cleaing the machine if free. This model comes with alot of the necessary accessories and the rest I bought online which were less pricey.

I truly hope that I made a good choice and I feel that I did. The machine sews like a dream and is so quiet. I like the idea of being able to sew through leather or layers of denim or fabrics. It's easy to use but will take some practice to learn everything that this computerized machine does. Everything is built in and requires no computer or card to operate. Apprently they don't make a combo of quilting and embroidery. That is another consideration. I truly hope this helps in your choice and best wishes. Happy Quilting!

I'm so sorry that you dislike the Janome machine. I've had two and have liked them both esp. the 11000SE.

I would be looking at a Juki sewing machine, as well. I recently bought a Juki MO644D serger from allbrands.com and I love it. It runs smooth and is easy for my to thread, which is saying something because I had an unnatural fear of sergers before I got this machine.

I love my Janome and have heard the Juki is grat too, really fast I hear. I would try them out and try to find someone who you can rely on and possible often classes too. I think either option is top of the brands as far as I can tell.

I recently bought a Juki TL2010Q and just love it! It's so fast and so easy. It has a huge throat space that fits twice as much quilt than my old machine, and it FMQs just beautifully. I bought it online from Ed Raichert in Arizona, and they shipped it right out to me. It's selling for $849 there, which is less than elsewhere. It comes with all kinds of stuff-- a walking foot and two quilting feet and some others, including adjustable zipper foot. It also has a big snap-on table, 23" x 13". I am in hog heaven...

The Juki TL 2010Q is just an awesome machine. It's rock solid, a steady performer, and will likely stay in your sewing room the rest of your life, it's that well built. Needle up/down, presser foot knee lever, and a lower thread cutter make this a dream machine. It has a beautiful stitch.
