I have been asked to make a lap size quilt as a raffle item. This is to be part of a fund raising event for a non-profit organization. They will pay for the materials and backing. I just need to know what size a lap size quilt is. I know there are going to be many opinion, including don't do it, but the organization has seen my less than stellar quilting efforts and seem to think it'll be fine. I have until June for the quilt but am having carpal tunnnel/ulnar nerve transposition surgery in early Jan so need to start planning it now. From what I understand, I have complete freedom in the color/pattern choices.

I think it's around baby blanket size---like for a wheel chair. Pretty useless in MPO but there are some that like them. Most people think that to ask for something larger is asking too much. Personally I'd much rather make a couch throw size.

It would be larger than a baby blanket.
There are many different sizes to lap quilts, Probably a minimum of 46 x 64. Something that someone can curl up on the couch with while watching a movie or something. |
Mine are approx. 42X54 Hope this helps:)

Our church asks for 45 by 54. I found that stubby on the one I made, so my current one is 47 by 61. If I don't like this one, I'll change the next one, but so far it looks much more useable.

i make my lap quilts around 50" or 60" square, it all depends on what pattern you pick.

Thanks. All good replies. They want it smaller - less chance of theft and easier to carry home for the winner. Plus, worried about not paying for my time, I think. :)

I like 40 x 60 so I can use regular fabric on the back and don't have to piece it.

i mostly do 45 X 60.....HATE having my feet sticking out!

50x60 is a good size. can be 45x50 if necessary.
