Need advice on how to quilt this... suggestions welcome!

I was asked to quilt this memory quilt... beautifully pieced by someone else. It is for the family of a great man and pastor who passed away two years ago. I have quilted the individual T shirt squares and I'm doing a squiggle in each of the "frames" around them. Last quilting of all will be the background-- the blue 'mosaic' fabric you see in the photo. I had thought to do piano keys-- plain lines 1" apart-- on the background, but to do that I need my walking foot to get straight lines. This is a queen size quilt, and with the walking foot I'd have to turn the quilt every time I change direction-- a big hassle. So I'd love to get some suggestions from you all as to what else I could do to quilt the backgrounds. Any suggestions? Thanks much, in advance.

Can you quilt the continuous hearts? They might look good in the sashing and you could FMQ them. Maybe you could FMQ the continuous e's or l's?

I was thinking of going across each blk with an X in half and a + in others, but in the blk with the cross sashings, I would do a cross. easy lines to make and they would hold the batting in place. Great quilt!!

No idea, but love the quilt and so far your quilting looks pretty good. Hope you find the answer that you are looking for.

How about just little round pieces here and there? they are already in the background?

Thank you for these suggestions. I think I am going to go back to my piano keys idea. I have plenty of swirly stuff in the big blocks and their frames. And nothing else seems to "gel". I'll just bite the bullet and do the straight lines, and turn this big quilt 1000 times!

You could FMQ your piano keys if you mark. Less turning.

hopetoquilt, I wish-- LOL! My FMQ isn't that good. I need the walking foot to get straight even lines. I started last night and it's slow going, but I think this is what the quilt was meant to have.

I was really surprised that over 322 people read my thread and only FOUR offered suggestions. I guess it was truly baffling. Thanks to those who tried to help, and the one who offered a compliment.

what about cross hatches with the cross point low on each side.
