Need advice on sandwiching a pieced backing
I have a pieced backing for a "French Roses" quilt top. I've never done this before and have no idea how to place the backing, batting, and top together so that the pieced backing is not crooked. Any tips/suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

I have pieced many backing. You need to measure your top width and length. Write them down. Then measure your backing width and length. Write them down. These number should tell you how much backing to leave on the outside before lining up the side of the quilt. This should help you center the top on the backing. There really isn't any easy way. Just try to get the top center on the pieced backing the best you can do. I do assume that you backing is at least 6" larger that the top in both width and length.
Good Luck |
Here's what I do:
*mark the middles of each piece *tape the backing down, wrong side up *line up the batting with the middle marks *line up the top with the middle marks *pin at the middle mark on the long side thru all layers *fold back the batting and top to the pins at the middle *spray baste the batting and smooth over the backing (I do in smaller sections, like 2-3 sections) *spray the batting (also a small section at a time) and smooth the top over the batting *once that half is complete, I do the same with the other half |
