I need creative ideas. I want to start a free quilting/sewing camp for kids. I almost said for girls, sorry guys. You know your're the best. I'm thinking 10-13 years old. I would like your thoughts, prayers and ideas. I need ideas for beginners as well as patterns that will excite them. Maybe items they can make as Christmas gifts. We all know how exciting it is to give a gift we've made. If you have any ideas on what we can start with please let me know. It's in the planning stages but really want to start in the Fall. Classes will be held at our local library.

About 5 years ago my DDs attended a quilt camp for kids at our LQS. Over the course of 5 days they peiced a rail fence quilt. The staff did all the cutting, taught them to use the sewing machine, how to thread it, etc. They came home with a completed top. I helped them add borders to make it a twin size. The LQS offered a discount to the kids to get them quilted. I helped them sew the binding on. They still use their quilt camp quilts.

What about a d9p or 4p to 9p? Real easy and the kids could see how one thing starts and then by tweaking ends up totally different.

Double sided fleece blankets are easy to do. You cut fringes around all sides (measure so both pieces of fabric are cut the same), then double knot the fringe. Voila! You're done!
Some kids will be interested in a more advanced project piecing a quilted throw. Blue jeans can be cut (pattern optional). Then instead of having the seams on the inside of the quilt, leave the seam allowance on the outside of the quilt to allow it to fray. (It adds an unusual texture.) |
