Need a good pattern idea...
I'm about to begin working on a quilt for my soon to be 8 year old niece. She has requested quite a variety of 'themes' to her quilt. We have kitties, puppies, peace signs, hearts, butterflies, dragonflies, cupcakes, soccer balls, and cheerleading. Whew! I have all my fabrics, and they are all generally hot pinks, purples, blues, greens, and yellows. Almost all are very bright fabrics. I would post a pic but the fabrics are at my aunts house currently.
I need a pattern that will not look too overwhelming with all the bright colored fabrics and one that she will be able to really see each fabric. It doesn't have to be an heirloom type pattern as this is just a quilt for her to drag around and use until she outgrows it. I also need it to be rather simple as I'm only a beginning quilter. I am thinking I'll make it about a twin size, however, I have bought about 8 yards of fabric (not including the backing) so I may be able to make it much larger. Thanks for any suggestions! :) Candace |
What about Times Three? You could put each of her requested fabrics in the larger blocks and some coordinates in te three alongside.

you could focus each fabric in a snowball. snowballs look good alternated with many other blocks, including simple 9-patches

Look up I spy quilts that might give you some ideas

Whatever pattern you choose, make sure to put a sashing, preferably white, around each block. Will really make the colors and fabric patterns stand out!

Turning Twenty would show off your fabrics. Large pieces and very easy.

Atkinson Designs, All About Me.
http://store.atkinsondesigns.com/sto...3&Item_ID=1021 i think that would work out well |
I would go with Warm Wishes and put a different fabric in each big block then coordinating strips as the between blocks.

I echo the "I Spy" idea. You don't have to do it with hexagons and triangles. Do a search and you'll find ideas, also quilt gallery here would be a good place to check out for similar ideas.

Thanks, all! I'm going to check out these patterns and see what I think will work best. I also really like the idea of doing sashing between blocks. I think that'll help tone down all the craziness in the fabrics.
