Need help with adjustment on Brother CE5500PRN Sewing Machine.
 

I have lost my instruction manual for my Brother CE5500PRW sewing machine and need help with a stitch problem. I was sewing along using a straight stitch and everything was great until I ran out of thread on the bobbin. I put in a new bobbin and started back sewing a straight stitch and noticed my top stitch looks great but the bottom thread comes out to loose and sort of wavy. I have tried to resolve the issue by inserting a different bobbin, re-threading the machine, changing the needle and adjusting the tension by moving the dial both up and down. Nothing help. Anybody have any suggestions of what I can do to fix this?

I'm not familiar with that particular machine. However, if you have both a bobbin and a removeable bobbin case, then I would suggest running a pin underneath the spring on the bobbin case. A tiny bit of lint caught there will cause the bobbin tension to change.

If it's a drop-in bobbin, then I would suspect a tiny piece of thread or lint stuck somewhere in the bobbin mechanism area.

Also, definitely clean everything, check your bobbins (I once had a couple in a row that were not quite even), try turning it off, re-doing everything and turning it back on. Brother has been my old reliable back up. Sometimes it helps to take everything out, turn it off, walk away, and go back in the morning. :)

I have this machine and my first instinct is to rethread the top (learned that one the hard way) but you said you did that. Try unscrewing the plate and cleaning out the case to make sure there is no thread or debris in there and if that doesn't work you can download the manual at the brother website.

Usually, when there's a problem on the bottom of the fabric, it means there's a problem with the top thread. Somehow, your upper tension isn't doing it's job. Sometimes, it looks like you've threaded between the tension disks, but the thread can get off to the side somehow. Visually check to see if it's in between the tension disks, if you can. Another thought is to fold a piece of fabric and run in on both sides of the tension disks to remove any lint that may be stuck in there. I hope you're able to get your machine going.

Re-thread everything.
