Hello,

I got a 15 yard bolt of batik fabric in a dark turquoise color at a very reasonable price in a swap meet. It is beautiful. But it is bleeding. When I handle it, my hands get bluish.

I washed it twice and it is still bleeding.

Any one known what can I do to stop the bleeding?

I would try soaking it in vinegar then washing in hot water. Someone else might have a more scientific suggestions. lol.

Retayne should stop the bleeding.

I noticed that you are from Canada as well. I've never seen Retayne here. Where have you found it? Or do you go to the States to get yours? Please? and thanks!

I had a weird thing happen with using vinegar this weekend. I had washed a quilt that I had just finished and the red in it bled and the color catcher didn't catch it all and it bled on the light fabric. I had pre-washed twice before using and thought the bleeding had stopped. It did not rub off on white or anything else. Anyway I soaked it in hot water, cold water, over and over, still bleeding. Then I poured vinegar into the cold water and the color released and turned it all a deep rust color. It was only about the size of a fat quarter so I was glad to throw it out especially since it had bled on my quilt. It was a Henry Glass fabric. Does anyone know what might have caused the vinegar to release the dye like that?
