Just so you know...I am going to buy this pattern, but I need some help first. I have to order my stuff online and I need to know how many fabrics and what yardage to buy to make one of these. I had considered buying a kit, but I haven't found one with fabric that I like. I don't want to spend money on fabric that I hate. I would rather pick it out myself. Could someone please tell me the fabric requirements so I know what to buy please. An example would be:: fabric #1 - body of purse -1yd. This way I can kind of design the look in my head so I can order the fabric. I know technically we should not share patterns, but you really aren't if you just give requirements, right? I appreciate any and all help with this. Thank you!

There are two size patterns. The Tote pattern is l3" wide, ll"tall and 5" deep. The front and back top main section take 1/3 yare, the front and back contrasting bottom piece, handles, side ties, button loop and front pocket lining take 2/3 yd, the front pocket - one fat quarter , lining for entire inside - 1/2 yd, 2 yds Pellon 987 Fusible Fleece, approx 2 yds.. This is what is listed on my pattern. More than you would think.

Go to Henrietta's Handbags, she shows the list of supplies with each pattern. I make lots of these bags and use about 2/3 yd for outside bottom part, lining and outside pocket and about a 1 1/4 for the outside top, inside pockets and the handles,( I make longer handles you need 10" instead of 5"). I also have extra to make a checkbook cover, tissue cover etc.

You will love making them.

Top main section - 1/3 yd
Contrasting bottom, handles, side ties, button loop, and front pocket lining - 2/3 yd
Front pocket - 1 fat quarter
Lining for entire inside - 1/2 yd
Inside pockets - 1/3 yd
Cover for bottom insert - use scraps or a fat quarter
1 - 1" or larger button
Shoulder handles is a 5" x width of fabric piece if not using contrasting bottom fabric
Pellon fusible fleece - 2 yds Heavy cardboard or Matte board for bottom

I have made several of the bow tucks bags and everyone admires them...Oh where did you get your bag? I told them I made it and they think it is a Vera Bradley. It is fun to make. I have one suggestion for the bottom of the bag...I used those roll up cutting mats that come packaged 4 in a pack. You can easily cut them with craft knife or scissors. I put two layers of it...glued them together and then covered with the fabric.

I love to make totes...(today is the 14th, and know it will be a while before you get to yours, hugs),...
but I use a piece of plastic canvas for the inside bottom of bag.
I use yarn and 'sew' or 'wrap' the edges all the way around, and then make a quilted cover, and then just lay it in the bottom of the bag.
When you get ready for a new bag, you can take this out and re-use it.
I think old plastic placemats would work out great too.
