Need help deciding on Jelly Roll/Layer Cake Pattern!
Missouri Star has The Catalina Jelly Roll and Layer Cake on sale today. That fabric is screaming at me right now! LOL
I have already browsed through their tutorials. Sarah has an interesting one where you cut the layer cake into 4" and 6" blocks then cut the jelly roll into 10" and 13" strips and rearrange the block that way. And Jenny also has one where it looks like she cuts the layer cake in half and sews a jelly strip to each side. Has anyone here used a pattern which uses a jelly roll and a matching layer cake? Did you like it? To justify the purchase to me, I need a pattern in mind. (DH does not really care - I have a long ways to go to catch up on his motorcycle stuff!) I'm also browsing through the Moda Bake Shop - so far nothing is jumping out at me. Thought I would ask my quilting buddies here for ideas/opinions. |
Haven't done a layer cake + jelly roll pattern but this caught my eye as something not too hard but potentially big impact depending on how you used square, sashing, and background colors: http://www.fatquartershop.com/store/...499&page_id=17 .

Thanks toolazy! That's a pretty quilt and fabric line.

Ack! My link didn't work, I think. The one I was looking at for a layer cake was "Dancing Patchwork." I don't seem to be able to link it directly. It is on fatquartershop.com.
I really didn't ignore *everything* you said LOL . |
I made the double slice layer cake quilt Jenny has a tut on. It came out nice. It didn't use any jelly rolls.

That's okay Toolazy! I went there and searched for the pattern - it's nice too!
Thanks Gaga! I went through all of their tutes and I'm leaning towards this one: http://quiltingtutorials.com/all/jel...ly-roll-quilt/ |
I am planning to make Jenny's "Jacob's Ladder" quilt. I also have a layer cake and matching jelly roll. But I also got a charm pack of the same line. I am going to cut the layer cake into charm size squares so that I end up with 5 charm packs. I will be using some extra coordinating yardage for the solids.
