What block pattern would you use for blocks surrounding this panel? I need suggestions please. I have thought of using 4" or 6" blocks of various patterns and colors (to accent or pick up the colors in the panel) and turn them on point per block. ANY ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! If you have photos of what you have done, I would love to see them.

The panel looks crooked however it is not, is just the way it is on my design board.

Panel measures 35" x 42" roughly. I want to make a quilt for a farmer, the farm scene is perfect for him.
I have looked at many blocks online, but not sure what would fit the theme. This will be a queen size quilt.
Thanks in advance.

I think that I would make flying geese in a rich tan to go all around then use about three borders of solid picking up colors from the panel till it was correct size. Make the borders different widths like 1 1/2, 2 1/2, and 3". I am sure your 'farmer' will love it.

Whole in the barn door. By other names It's either a shoo fly or churn dash

Flying geese were my first thought (rich tan good color choice). But those plus a churn dash/hole in the barn door border might be nice. You will need multiple borders to "grow" this lovely panel into queen size.

What about adding a log cabin block to include the traditional red center square?

I'd suggest Hole in the Barn Door

Any 2 colour pattern blocks would look good surrounding the panel. I would use that barn red of the panel border and a warm cream.

The first thought I had was a nine patch. I think it would frame it beautifully.

I started a thread about panel quilts. Maybe you can inspiration there.(link below)

I am inclined to agree with the others who suggested Hole in the Barn Door.

It is going to need several rows of blocks to enlarge this panel. Just choose colors from the panel and most anything will work.
