Need Help Downloading Embroidery Patterns
 

Ordered 4 patterns online & having trouble opening them after downloading to computer. Their files do not support Adobe and suggest I use something else. I have windows 7, Chrome browser and use Adobe to open downloads. When I contacted them, this is all the info they gave me, said the files were fine & no one else had complained & to use something other than Adobe. How do you do that? Need some help or suggestions please!

Are they in a zip file? did you try right click and then open? what format are you using pes?jeff?????? I have the same as you win& and chrome also adobe I never had a problem, I use pes but have software to change format if I need to, it seems to me the website you bought the designs from were very rude to you I got the impression that they don't care. a good digitizer will try and help you through the problem if you cannot open them and you open all other designs w/o a problem then imho the problem is on them they didn't file something right,if you paid with paypay I would file a complaint and get your money back their reply to you is no way to treat a customer short and blunt seems they don't care..............I will send you a pm

I have a Janome 350e embroidery machine, Windows 7 computer. When I download designs (I primarily use Embroidery Library), I download the "color sheet" and the JEF file. If the file is zipped, I can open it, but I cannot open the JEF file -- I can only see it when I put the flash drive in the embroidery machine. I print the color sheet to use as a guide for thread colors, etc. Hope this makes sense.

There is Embroidery software that you can open a JEF file on your computer with. I use Embird. I sometimes buy designs that only come in JEF format. So I open it in my Embird program and change it to a format my machine uses.

I ONLY have Adobe on my computer. They are NOT be very helpful.

Adobe and/or windows are not able to open machine embroidery files. To see them you will need specialized software designed to do that. There are many different softwares you can purchase, I use Buzz Explore, and Embird has already been mentioned but there many others available as well. There are also free software packages you can download to try as well. I have not used any of these, but I did Google 'free software to view embroidery files' and a number of options did come up. If you read the blurbs about them you may find one that meets your needs. Sorry I am not able to recommend one but they do appear to provide the basic functions you are looking for and the screen shots look similar to what I have in Buzz Tools. Good luck!

Unless you want to edit them, you don't NEED to open them on your computer. Instead, you can just copy them onto whatever media it is that your embroidery machine reads. In my case, that's simply a USB thumb drive. Then I insert that into the computer and open them from there. It is handy to have a "viewer" so that even if you don't wan to edit them, you can view them in the file folders on your computer, but it's not necessary.

Above are all correct. A computer cannot open a file to allow viewing the image of a design..you need a special software to read the data that accompanies the design. You need a viewer to see your design as an image (like a picture). I have been in love with Embrilliance Thumbnailer for several years: I unzip a folder and my format (pes--that's the format I have it set for) design is easy to select..then I send it to my embroidery folder where all my designs are displayed as images. Makes it so easy to select what I want to stitch out. There are many viewers....some are programs that have to be opened and you work within--My Editor & Pulse Ambassador are a couple that are free. I love both for editing , reformatting, other needs. SewIconz is another like Thumbnailer--I think it costs about $25?, Thumbnailer was $40 when I bought, but has been worth every penny as you own (CD w/serial #) and can install in another computer. I started with XP and now up to Win7 Ultimate & Professional. There is another freeware viewer I started with back in my embroidery elementary yrs--it is called ''pesview", but I don't know what format you use. I'd be happy to share the link for it.

I would suggest you go to your dealer. They can help you get started. Don't rush into buying something you won't use. There are lots of programs as mentioned......you may only need something like mermaid suggests, however, you may want more. Do you want software? This is expensive, but you are able to do more. If you are not good with computers you want lessons. There are great lessons on line, but if you only want to buy and stitch you don't need software. Try sending the .jef file to a USB stick and plug it into your machine. See your dealer. They should give you good support, but don't spend a lot of money before asking here. You have gotten some good advice and you can do things without spending too much money. Let us know how you make out.
