I had posted for the Americana Cowboy fabric (still searching). Now I need a suggestion for one of my other nephews. He is turning 13 and his room decor is going to be black and gray. Yep, that tween/teen thing. He's very smart and also plays sports but didn't want anything in sports theme.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I seen a picture of a quilt in Keepsakes quilting that was done in black, gray & red using the 10 minute block. D9P would also work in black and gray.

Thanks, what kind of prints, though?

I gathered 19 black and white and white and black FQ and one Red Print FQ, then I did a Turning Twenty for my son. I put red binding around it and he loved it.

Cowboy fabric at Hobby Lobby and at Whittles Fabrics.com.

I would think any geometric patterns, circles, blenders, funky dots or spots, lines, etc. It may take looking at a few sites, but there is a lot out there. A tube quilt would be easy and quick, too, if you are in a hurry. Or 10 - minute blocks are quick, also.

Black and white geometrics, and white and black geometrics with a solid colour to make it pop (lime green, blue, red etc). This is one my DGD and I made together, she is 15 and did not want girly colours or patterns. She picked out the colours and the pattern.

Love Quilterella's quilt too! Log cabin in black to grey with red centers would be awesome as well.

Nice fabric selection! That is the type of quilt I would like. I don't like girly stuff either!

I agree, keep his colors but add in a little of another color----red is classic but turquoise, yellow, lime or orange would be fun too---just to break up the monotony,

Ditto to keeping to his black and grey decor. It could become very dramatic and help you stretch outside your safety zone!

If adding another colour, use a blacker tone of the colour, so it doesn't jump out of the mix and dominate. Quilterella's is a great example.

Extra thought here ... a colour with a black nothing print on top of it.

I am in the process of making a Day & night for my 14 yo stepson.

Split Nine Patch would be a good one too.

A lot of the boys now are going towards the camo fabric. I comes in all different color variations.

Do a search here and on Google for two-color quilts and see what comes up.

Maybe show him a few samples to see what he likes/dislikes. Tonals and batiks may catch his eye too.
The males in my family prefer nothing floral or girly LOL :D:D:D

Check out this quilt posted in another thread. A great "male" quilt and fits your colour requirements!

I was just at Hancock's Fabrics today and saw some cowboy fabric in their clean sweep section. There was a tossed cowboys fabric and one with larger pictures of cowboys, mostly on horseback. The background was a deep blue and the pictures looked kind of vintage. It was only $1/yd!

Oooh...now that's my kind of price!! Will try to get to Hancoccks this weekend.

If you like applique...I love the silhouette projects in black and maybe shades of gray for background.

justlooking 04-08-2011 02:45 AM

Both quilts shown were great to use for a male.
