Need help figuring out pattern dimensions
I was given some fabric which included a good number of 2.5" strips. I have matched up some fabric from my stash and would like to make a star pattern. I have made 4-patch blocks using the strips and some of my fabric for the center but would like to make flying geese blocks to turn the 4 patch blocks into stars. The 4-patch square measures 4.5 unfinished. I think I should cut the flying geese (the rectangle block) 4.5 X 2.5 and then the corner blocks 2.78 X 2 78. My brain can't seem to work around the measurements today. I blame it on chemo brain but frustrating. I know there is a name for this block but can't find the pattern dimensions without the name. I want a 6.5 unfinished block as a result. thank you for your help.

If you want a 6.5" unfinished (6" finished) star, you would need a
centre square that's 3.5" unfinished (3" finished). The flying geese for a 6.5" unfinished star block is 3.5" x 2" (unfinished) 3" x 1.5" (finished). And you would need 4 squares for the corners. Cut at 2" squares (1.5" square finished). If you want to use your four patches as is then your star blocks would finish at 8" (8.5" unfinished). Hope this helps. |
