sometimes I drop the bobbin in with the thread going counterclockwise.......so I have to take it all out and reset it headed clock wise. Mine works better that way, BUT recently I found a ball of lint stuck in the feed dog. I was just blowing it out, canned air won't have spit in it to rust my little ole MAchine. It was not strong enough to dislodge what I did not see. SO I am using the brush first then blowing. So far, I'm tangle free and it's been since the 4th. Hope this helps.......

Sometimes even new needles can be defective.

i have found that when the needle gets stuck in the down position that it is because the thread has slipped off the up-down arm (don't know what it is called). this can be a really really frustrating thing i know. can't tell you how many times it has happened to me.

I have a feeling that there is a piece of thread caught somewhere. It is either in the hand wheel or in the bobbin case area. Try turning your hand wheel BACKWARDS while looking in the bobbin area. Have bobbin out and needle plate off if possible. Do this without any thread. Good luck.

I recently had a spool of Coats and Clark thread that had an exceptionally large slit in the top of the spool (to hold the thread when not being used). I could sew along for quite a while and then the machine would hang up and the thread would break. By the time I finished checking things out, I would be past that particular place on the spool and it would straighten itself out. Took several breaks before I figured it out. I took a metal nail file and filed off the slit on the spool and haven't had any trouble since. I'll be glad when that spool is gone! I really like the newer spools that have a 2-part end where the thread slips between them instead of the slit. Wonder if they'll be making all of them like that in the future???

Hi: If you have never had your machine serviced, this might be a good time to do it. Many times, what happens when the machine locks up, the thread is wrapping around you bobbin pick up wheel. Go see a repair man. Good Luck!
