I am practicing hand quilting. I'm stitching straight even stitches on the front, but on the backside the stitches are teeny tiny and very uneven. Help!

Thanks so much!

Small stitches on the back can mean that you are not inserting the needle at a 90 degree angle.

Keep practicing! Believe it or not, the more you practice, the more even your stitches will become. It may sound silly, but it really is true.

Also, make sure you are inserting the needle straight down from the top, when it hits your underneath finger, rock it, get a rhythm, and pull up after a few stitches. Keep the same rhythm, and you will become more proficient before you know it!

Thanks to both of you! I will be more aware of the 90 degrees and also practice, practice, practice.

Do you quilt in a hoop! If yes, don't pull you fabric too tight in the hoop. Lose the tension a little bit, it is much easier to move the needle that way.
