Need Help With Hexagon Lay out

I assume the proper way to to a quilt would be to begin with plan or pattern. Not me. I just stated making hexagons. Now I'm ready to plan the quilt. I could use your help.

I'm thinking of putting in 6" hexagon flowers with white center and place a 1.5 small hexagon flower in the middle. Some white triangles in-between.I may use the pink as a wide border sashing and red binding.

How should I finish the block? With a large white square background? Any ideas?
Thank you

I would use white hexies around the block. I love your idea of the small hexies for the center !

How large is this block? Do you want square blocks or do the entire quilt "grandmothers flower way"? If blocks I'd applique to white, if you are doing the entire quilt in hexagons than the white diamonds or white hexagons is the way to go in my honest opinion. In the end it is your quilt and you can so what strikes your fancy! :)

Have you thought of using the paper piece method?? If not, I would draw the stitch lines and dots where to stop since you will have inset seams. With the smaller ones. cut some plastic hexagons the finished size. I made these (the purple I didn't get the basting tight enough). You just do a basting stitch to gather and tie it in a corner. Press it at very low heat, pop out plastic template and applique it to your center. Cute design.

I would pull the large green from the flowers and add another blue. Then I would use the green to attach the flowers together. I believe the old GFG thought was the green was the garden path or leaves for the flowers.

Love the centers with the tiny hexies

It all depends on how much work you want to do. It's more work to piece in white hexagons surrounding the coloured flowers but the traditional GFG is awfully pretty. If you want it finished quicker than appliquéing the big flowers to white squares would be nice too. I love your tiny flower inside the bigger one.
