need help with mini Lone Star
 

I am trying to make some 6" Lone Star blocks to go in a quilt border. I have never done a Lone Star block and doing one this small is way harder then I thought it would be. Can anyone give some pointers on how to make this easier?

As you can see, it's not perfect. The strips I'm working with are 7/8ths of an inch wide. Should I sew this by hand instead of the machine? The presser foot on the machine is making it very hard to keep a 1/4" seam because of the close seams.

Any advice will help.

do it by hand OR strip sets! also you would do better with 1/8" seams!

I paper pieced mine. It's a slightly different technique than regular paper piecing but it's A) easy, and B) great results. I do however recommend that you use the thinnest paper possible as at one point you have to fold the paper to match the two seams and thicker paper is too much bulk and is more difficult to maneuver.

Can I do that? 1/8" seams? or should I trim them down to that after I sew?

Maybe use a zipper foot instead of a quilting foot?.....

You could also tack it by hand and then sew on the machine. Your blocks are going to be beautiful. It is easier to strip piece these.
