Need help with my little experiment on threads.
When I was getting ready to quilt my grandson's I spy quilt I wanted a colorful thread vs a solid color. Right next to my sewing desk is a cabinet with all my serger spools on top. I looked up and there was a cone of jewel tone swirl. So I said, hum, that's thin, right color, but too thin for quilting. So I told myself, load up a couple of bobbins with the swirl, then use the cone and put the two together and you'll have the right thickness. Well I did, I had to watch the bobbin on top cause sometimes it would wrap around the stick, the cone was left on the serger and extended to meet the bobbin thread. I used a 14 size needle and tested it out.
My result> It worked fine, just one issue. When I stopped to turn the quilt to go about a 45degre or 90 degree angle I noticed a nest under the quilt. Not too noticable, but I kept thinking, why is it doing great when I straight sew, but it's nesting when I turn.
Any thoughts? This was strickly a test, I've sense bought some swirls for machine quilting, however I would still appreciate any thoughts as to why it nested at turns.
