I was working on my grandsons quilt and my thread keeps breaking. I have changed the needle, adjusted the tension (several times) changed the foot, re-threaded the machine, cleaned the machine, and it still keeps breaking! I am using Marathon cotton thread and it seems to shred (for lack of a better word) when the thread breaks. I even tried changing the thread. Has anyone had this problem or know how I can fix it? I have had to spend most of the day ripping out stitches because now it is skipping stitches. Thanks in advance for any help/advice anyone can give me!

Different needle? Maybe you need to change sizes.

MY only suggestion would be to try a different needle. Is the needle in correctly?

Along the side where the thread touches the machine before you thead through the guides and than into the needle, gets little grooves worn into the paint. Run your finger along there and see if you feel any. I use Sally Hanson hard as nail and fill them in every so often.. I have also heard about some people putting a fishing pole tip there. See if that helps.

Found the problem! It was a loose thread guide which was tangling the thread before it traveled to the tension guide! Thanks for all of your help! I did change the needle again and adjust the tension again as well. Back to sewing again! :D
Did I mention how much I love this site?
