Need help with my walking foot

A friend gave me a universal walking foot to use on my Brother LS-2125 machine. I can't get it to work properly. The needle keeps hitting the metal part of the foot and breaking needles. Is there any adjustments I can make or is the foot no good? Thanks!

I really hope that your friend didn't give you a foot that doesn't work! I know she wouldn't do that to you - lol!

Silly!! I kept working with it and each time the needle hit the metal part. I hope someone has a suggestion how to adjust it. I think it works but I might be doing something wrong.

I hope this doesn't sound nasty, but, do you know how they get installed? The fork piece is inserted to surround the thread screw horizontal post prior/as the foot itself is attached to the presser foot post.

Can your needle position be adjusted?

A picture of the problem might help someone figure it out for you.

I have it installed like it's supposed to be. The needle isn't adjustable. I wish I had a good enough camera to get an up-close picture. The best I can describe it is when the needle goes down, it hits the metal part in the center. It seems like it needs to be set forward just a pinch so the needle doesn't hit. I've tried to do that and it hasn't helped.

This may be far out, but could you file away the part that the needle hits? I suppose that isn't possible, but I once filed down a filling after I got back from the dentist. The filling was just a tad too tall. Thought it might work? My walking foot is built in, so I am probably looking at a walking foot that isn't like yours.

It keeps hitting the middle bar when the needle comes down. That would work but I'd have to take off at least an 1/8". I've tried changing the stitch length to see if that would move the needle enough. It didn't work.

My best guess is that the "universal" foot isn't right for your machine. It probably fits a lot of machines, which is why they label it as "universal". Sewing machines vary so much it's quite impossible for any one walking foot to fit every machine on the market.

Usually the best walking foot for a given machine is the walking foot sold specifically for that machine. Sometimes you can find a generic foot that gives a good result; however, often the generics are lesser quality and may not work well.

I think that may be the problem. I've tried everything I know to do. I was hoping someone might know of a fix for it. I appreciate all the suggestions. I think I'm going to have to buy the one specifically for my machine. Thanks everyone!!

Get a brother walking foot, complicated feet are the ones worth spending the extra dollars on, you don't want to mess up your machines timing on a cheap foot. hopefully you haven't damaged machine. This happened when I bought aq cheap ruffler, learned my lesson fast

It may not be compatible with your machine!

Sounds like that foot doesn't fit your machine. I've never seen any adjustment on any of them. Although there are generic ones out there, that doesn't make them magically fit every machine, they are usually designed to fit a range of machines. You need to make sure that it is installed correctly and if the needle hits the foot, it's the wrong one for your machine and you will need to purchase one that is specific for your machine.

In addition, I thought I would save money by purchasing a generic one that fit my machine. It broke within a few months' of moderate use. The one made by my machine company is much more sturdily made, works great but was more expensive.

I agree! Also make sure the shank length is the right one for your machine. there are short and long shank length.

I have a Brother sewing machine. I kind of agree with most of the previous comments that maybe your "universal" walking foot isn't quite as universal as your friend thought. Find a local shop that sells Brother machines and ask them what types of walking feet attachments will work with your model. If they tell you the one you have should work, the next thing I would check is to see if there are any screws on the walking foot that are not screwed tight. I now have two walking feet for my machine because I thought mine was broken. After spending $50 for a new one, I discovered that the screws on either side of my walking foot weren't very tight which was causing my problems.

So..check with a legit Brother dealer to find out if you have a foot that truly should work on your machine.
