I would like to make a quilted baby nursing cover for my niece who is expecting a baby next month. Has anyone made one of these and if so, where did you find the pattern. I really don't know the proper name for this item and have never seen one. My sister tried to describe it to me but I seem to have missed the point. LOL

Thanks. Betty

Does she want a blanket to throw over the baby while she is nursing? If that is it, any little lightweight quilt will do the trick.

Google "Hooter Hider" and you'll see what the trend is now.

I think this is what you are looking for.

Oh I just made several of these nursing covers. It's basically just a lined rectangular piece of fabric with some boning in the middle of the top edge. The boning lets the mom peek in and see the baby. Mom ties it around her neck like a regular apron. I used KWIK SEW pattern #3734. www.kwiksew.com

The way it was described to me was: It is sort of like a blanket that had a strap on it that fit around the mothers neck but had something bendable in front that held the blanket out away from the mother so she could see the baby as it nursed. It also provided coverage under the mothers arms so people around her could not see the baby nurse. I can sort of picture how it might look but I'm lost when it comes to actually making one without a pattern.

Thanks. That close to what I was looking for. I appreciate your help.

Thanks. I will try to find this pattern in the morning.

Thanks everyone. I knew someone out there would point me in the right direction. I really appreciate all of you.

I wouldn't do it quilted with batting - being a nursing mom right now, it would just be too much for me...too heavy. I have become very adept at nursing inconspicuously without a cover, but if I ever do feel the need for one, I never use anything heavier than a flannel receiving blanket.
