Need help with a pattern by Atkinson Design-- Urban Cabin

I am having trouble knowing what some of the numbers mean. For example, it says--

Background
cut (5,5,7,8,9) 3 1/2" x42" set aside for inner border
cut (6,9,12,16,24) 3 1/2" x42" cut(16,25,36,48,70) 3 1/2" x 11 1/2"
cut (4,7,9,12,18) 3 1/2 x42" cut(16,25,36,48,70) 3 1/2" x 10 1/2"

Where are the numbers coming from that are in the parentheses?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I am assuming the pattern has 5 possible sizes that could be made. The first number would be the first quilt (smallest size) and the last number would be the largest quilt. How many you cut depends on what size you are making.

You can make the quilt in various sizes. Each number between the parentheses is for the respective size quilt. Go thru it and circle the amount that corresponds with the size quilt you want to make. Her directions are usually very good. It's probably explained in there somewhere. :)
