Need Help for a Pattern
 

My sister's husband just passed away so I decided to take his shirts and make her a remembrance quilt. I can't decided on a pattern. Anyone have any ideas?

Edited to add: In looking at the pictures, you can make almost any pattern. I would suggest you think about a controlled scrappy because you won't have that much fabric from each shirt.

Disappearing 9 patch can be used with much of the quilts and lead to an interesting quilt. Good luck.

I just finished 3 memory quilts made with pants and shirts. Much depends on how big of quilt you are wanting--usually a large lap quilt (or wall hanging) is best. and also the number of shirts available. (and the sizes! and whether long or short sleeves) these were plaid shirts, so a plainer design was used--one was a snowball (with the pants as corners) one was a railfence (with alternating plain blocks) and the other was just a simple 4 patch with alternating plain blocks. 'borders were piano keys, the half square triangles cut from the snowballs.
All 3 were 60x60 andn it took 18 shirts and 8 pairs of pants to make them.

When you disassemble the shirts, just cut off the collars, cuffs (may save the cuffs if you think you'll need that fabric) and button plackets. I used the shirt pockets "as is" per client request. Good luck!

But you can really use any pattern. I cut all my recycled shirts into 5" charms and used some patterns from the Nickle Quilts books by Pat Speth.

And finally, the quilt need not be made from all shirts. You can add yardage in a neutral color and pick any scrappy pattern.

Here's the quilt I'm making from my step-dad's shirts and jeans. It's called Denim Stars. I'm still sewing the rows together.

I made a D4P with the solids and prints of shirts. It turned out great. I also backed it with flannel to make it snuggly.
