Need Help please

Okay people need some help with a Singer Foot Controls ....
Well I would like to have a Hand Control for my Singer so I can do my Quilting without the foot control. Do anyone of you understand what I'm talking about and if so where can I get one for my SingerConfidence 7463....

I have a quilting table so the foot Control does not reach the floor, so I have to hold it in my one hand and more the sewing machine with the other hand... Not good at all.... So please Help....

DebbE 08-26-2012 06:29 AM

Can't see how a hand control will help you as I need both hands quilting. Not knowing your exact set up and not having a picture to look at , I have two ideas. The first is, build a box that won't slide on the floor, and put your foot control on top of that on one of those grippy anchors that will hold the control is place. You can build it as high as needed so you can reach the peddle to push it. The second one is (and this will sound funny)....but how about if you put your foot control under the right side of your upper thigh when sitting on your chair, so all you have to do is lean a bit to the right (or left) and it pushes the control down so you can sew with both hands? You'd have to be sitting in a slightly larger seat that's pretty flat, but try it, it may work. Hope one of the ideas works for you...

DebbE 08-26-2012 06:32 AM

Just thought of something else. What if you anchored the control to the left side of the cabinet underneath so you could push it with the side of your leg at the knee? It would take some practice to perfect using it that way, but it could possibly work, too.

peg1991 08-26-2012 09:21 AM

this would not work.. I'm standing not sitting at the table. I think I need to place a pic up for you all to see what I mean.

Be back soon today with that pic..or pics..

Can you go to a local sewing machine shop and have them to make you a longer cord???

Deborahlees 08-26-2012 10:02 AM

i would think an electrician could also lengthen the cord for you,,,,that should be a simple fix

peg1991 08-26-2012 10:18 AM

Yes that would be to have the cord longer then I would have to keep moving it with my foot as I quilt on a 10 foot table. I think someone out in the quilting world would know how to make one or can it be done?

Cybrarian 08-26-2012 10:21 AM

Yes, definitely, longer cord is the answer. Do you have a good sewing machine repair person? He or she should be able to do this pretty easily.

peg1991 08-26-2012 10:33 AM

nope so I will have to see if I can find one.. I just would think there would be one for it.. It would work great if I remember were I seen that at...

peg1991 08-26-2012 10:35 AM

I forgot sorry everyone... Thank you for your help with this..:o

I have the Hinterberg Stretch Machine Quilting Frame. And it came with a set up for the foot pedal. It sat on a platform and there was a handle like a bike brake that I squeezed to control the speed. Are you sure there isn't some option like this for your frame? I'm afraid making a super long cord isn't going to fix the issue. You will still have to move the foot control, and I would think the cord would get in the way.

Do you have room for velcro to put it on the machine near your hand? To put velcro on your machine and on bottom of your foot control?

Peg, I made handles for my table top frame with PVC pipe, purchased just the electric cord without the foot from a sewing place and the 'switch' I installed in the handles was the on/off switch from a torch lamp. Here are the pics.

The cord comes out one back corner for the electric and the machine. Worked really well for me. The switch was a dimmer type switch so it was on/off and speed. Get on some of the quilt machine sites on Yahoo and there are lots of different ideas to make this happen.

I think you want Nifty Grips - they convert your foot pedal into hand controls:

This is exactly what I use on my Janome on a frame. Just research which kind of plug in your machine has and match that to the model of Grace control you need. If your machine is listed in their compatability list, you're ahead of the game :) It comes with velcro straps so you can put in on the handle bars of a frame, or you could put it on your machine - on the handle maybe?

Could you have someone mount the foot control on a table leg so you can use it as a knee control? One of my old sewing machines had a knee control----------and I loved it.

Scrap my response. I didn't pay attention to the fact you are working on a long frame.

jitkaau 08-28-2012 03:00 AM

If the cord is too short to reach the floor, would a foot rest or stool with a board nailed to the back of it be ok to put your foot on?The board would stop you from accidentally pushing it off the foot rest.

jitkaau 08-28-2012 03:08 AM

Sorry, did not understand your question until I saw the pictures. My frame has a lever next to the handle. When I pull it (like a bike brake), a pedal pushes against the foot control. I release my hand from the handle and it stops the machine. It would be quite simple to rig something up on the bed in order to do this.

brenwalt 08-28-2012 04:24 AM

Use a block and set the control on a block until you can get an extension for your control. (Even a concrete block would probably do the trick.....)

cjaneky 08-28-2012 04:37 AM

are you standing or sitting?.

rj.neihart 08-28-2012 04:39 AM

I like the idea of putting the control on my right thigh area, bracing it so it's closer and easier to use.

weezie 08-28-2012 08:21 AM

My frame is currently (and I hope temporarily) dismantled, but I have the Grace speed control. It works very well strapped to one of the carriage handles.

Take your control to sewing machine repair shop and ask them to lengthen the cord. Another foot or so might be ideal.

Judith 08-28-2012 11:50 AM

If it were me, I would mount it on the carriage right in front of the round white bar you are holding in one of the pictures. Then I would get someone to rig it so that you could have a handle to squeeze on that white bar, or something that would turn it on and leave it on at the speed you need to go. That way, the control is always where you need it in relation to the machine, you are not tripping over it, and it is easy to reach if you need to turn if off quickly. some kind of a lever action thing ought to work out.

I have one for my Janome 1600. Works like a dream, well worth the $$$. It straps onto my handle bars and I can control it with my thumb while my fingers move the machine. Like you I tried to chase the foot peddle all over. I tried staching the foot peddle under my arm, but as I remember that didn't work out too well either.

margecam52 08-28-2012 04:59 PM

What you need is a stitch regulator of some kind. Grace company makes some. Contact your dealer (or the company that makes your machine and see if they know of one for your machine).

I know exactly what you are going through. I have a Juki on my frame and the foot control for it is HUGE. I found a controler that plugs in where my foot one did. I velcro it to the top of my machine. it has a speed knob and an off/ on button. I got it from All Brands but it is made by the Grace Company. Maybe there is one to fit your machine(if your foot controler unplugs). It isn't great ( I have problems with the start /stop at times) but it is soooo much better than trying to drag that foot pedal along.

Need Help Please

Take a look at the Grace Speed Control. They are available for different machines and just plug into where your foot control would.

I saw the last pic and you can get a thumb switch to place on the carriage where your hand is in pic#3. My Bailey quilter has one. I think you can order the switch for regular machines. If you are interested pm me and I will get you the Phone #.If not can a friend mount the peddle to the side or top of the carriage?

suzm 08-29-2012 06:48 AM

First, where did you get your quilting set-up from. I would go back to them and ask for help. I would think that your "foot" would drop down the back side of the machine.

MimiBug123 08-29-2012 08:39 AM

It looks like you are using a Ken Lund frame. There should be a way to attach it to the carrier handle. Duct tape comes to mind--but that's my solution for everything. I'll have to think about it, but there has to be something that will work as an attachment to hold the pedal to the handle--that way, you'd still be holding the handle with both hands, but could hold the pedal down also.

Delta 08-29-2012 08:49 AM

I have the same machine and I have no clue. but dont quilt to fast you will throw it out of time. I have done it twice and finally bought a juki for quilting.
