DO NOT drink RED wine in the same room your quilting is in!!!
Spilled red wine all over one quilt top and on 10 fat quarters (off white on white) and on 6 meters of fabric that is off white backgroud. What do I do now? Got it out of the carpet and off the wall but what do I do with the fabric? |
Try cleaning it the same way you cleaned the carpet.
Wine is full of enzymes, so it should come out. |
Oxi-clean laundry booster (I think that's what it's called) or Boraxo have both been known to work wonders on such things.
Soak it in your washer for awhile and see how much comes out. If necessary repeat. I've done this with mildew stains and they're even worse to get out than red! |
Soak in club soda...works on tablecloths!
|
I would soak it in a solution of oxy-clean. I have used it for many, many stains with excellant results.
|
I heard salt takes out red white.
|
Thanks, I will go buy some Boraxo or OxiClean but remember I have been drinking wine all afternoon so will have to wait till after dinner to go to store. I guess I will soak in water for time being. Should it be hot or cold water or does it matter?

Thanks, I have it all soaking now - used shaving cream to get it out of the rug. But, I used it all so need to get more of that too. Thanks for your help, at least with it soaking it maybe won't set.
|
I sure wish I was having wine with you. LOL!!! Without the problems.

That's one reason NO food OR drinks are allowed in my sewing room.
|
Someone suggested cold water. I was told long time ago that very hot water takes out fruit stains. It worked on a white tablecloth when my nephew spilt grape juice.
|
Eeek! Hope it comes out. Sorry about the "oops".
I suppose, though, if it doesn't come out, just soak the rest of the fabric in wine and tell people that's the color it's supposed to be! ;) he he

Here is a link with some good instructions. Trick seems to be to "dilute" the wine a.s.a.p. & then use Oxygen based cleaner & hot water.

I'd read some place that white wine takes out the stain, and sure enough when my DD spilt her glass of red wine on our new green plush loveseat, I grabbed a bottle of white wine (what a waste!) & poured it on & we dabbed cloths on it for hours. In the morning no sign of a stain at all. But I imagine now that you've soaked your items, the stains will be very difficult to remove with anything.

Hydrogen peroxide lifts it out pretty well, even after soaking....
|
Thanks everyone. Soaking got the stain out of everything except the fat quarters. There is just one drap on each one - go figure that one out. I will try something else on them today and if I cannot get the stains out I can still work around them so all is not lost. Quilt top is perfect and so are the many yards of fabric.
I certainly will never walk into the sewing room again with any food or drink! Learned that lesson very well. I can still see that glass tipping over!!!!! Oh no!!!!!!!!!!! |
I use BIZ to get red wine out of our Communion linens.
|
White wine won't stain! LOL
