I agree with the whole cloth idea. You could quilt around each square and put a nice border on it and it will be great and that way you don't lose any of the print. I did that with some fabric I bot online and it turned out to be a very nice quilt.

Love the fabric. Great for a sons bed. Me, I would take the easy way out. I would choose a color that compliments the quilt and use for the back and border. Then put in the batting and quilt stitch around each animal square.

I second that!

Yes, I vote for leaving it whole. It is such beautiful fabric and the border is too pretty pretty to lose. Some of my favorite quilts are "cheater" quilts. You could quilt around the animals to accentuate them.

The center portion of this quilt is whole cloth (the different angles-looks like patchwork). It came this way.
I did not cut it up and piece back together. Just in case everyone thought I had pieced this center section.

Beautiful quilt. I have given some thought to doing something like this, but I think I will leave the fabric intac t, make a center panel then put on borders. Thanks for your picture.

Same here, I would fussy cut the picture blocks and also some of the birds. Sure is lovely fabric

There are some good ideas from Kaye Wood on how to use this type of fabric in a quilt. She has a video on cutting them into large tumbling blocks - worthwhile watching her videos.

Check out Susan Teegarden Dissmore's quilting book "Clever Quilts Encore" on Amazon. I think they may show pictures on "look inside the book" that will give you ideas. The entire book is based on fussy cutting theme print fabrics and panels, then adding blocks, strips, triangles, slashing, borders, etc. Her ideas certainly are clever and very easy. You're going to have so much fun!

You could fussy cut each of the blocks and then add a 2" border to each one. After that, cut the blocks down to a standard size - some would have 2" border, some would have 1" border, etc.

I'm attaching a photo of a quilt I made out of a similar panel.

Rainbow 11-09-2010 07:25 PM

LOVELY !!

Rann 11-09-2010 07:57 PM

Keep it like it is. It will be great whatever you do.

rahaube 11-09-2010 08:14 PM

I would cut the block apart. put borders around the largest one log cabin style then put as many log cabin rounds as necessary on the others to make them the same size. It would make a very masculine quilt.

I vote for keeping the Timeless Treasures all together and adding the borders around it. It's beautiful fabric and I can hardly wait to see the finished project.

Keep the fabric whole and put a border of pieced blocks around it. I did that with some space fabric I didn't want to cut up. Used the free form star blocks for the border. Here is a picture of what I did.

My friend bought a fabric similar to this one and we cut out the individual blocks and centered them on a solid color background fabric that matched the Panel pieces and appliqued the on with the machine. Then we put different color solid blocks inbetween them. We used the teacup and tulip pattern for a border made from those colors. It really turned out nice. Also, put a panel of a larger deer in the center of the quilt. Whatever you decide to do, I'm anxious to see the results.

Jeanniejo 11-10-2010 04:09 AM

I would do borders.

Jeanniejo 11-10-2010 04:10 AM

Beautiful !!!

twinkie 11-10-2010 05:05 AM

I would use the whole piece. Then add a solid border perhaps 3" wide maybe a warm brown (could even have a very small muted print). The add a "Deer Print" border of about 5" wide and another of the 1st border that was 3". That was just my suggestion, however there have been many good ones before mine.

Tinabodina 11-10-2010 05:10 AM

I think you should leave it just like it is. Put a boarder on and start quilting. I love the fact they are going every-which-way.

AnnT 11-10-2010 05:46 AM

I like the idea of leaving it whole and adding a border. The fabric is great and I know my son would be over-the-moon with one like that!

TexasSunshine 11-10-2010 06:25 AM

I would put a narrow border, about 1 or 2 inches close to the edge then add a larger border around it to make it the size you want. I would use a allover print or non directional print around it.

I really like this idea. Thanks for posting a picture of your beautiful quilt. Very inspiring.

Farm Quilter 11-10-2010 11:31 AM

I would fussy cut all the blocks and birds out. Use sashing to make the blocks all the same size and use the birds in the border.

Ragann63 11-10-2010 11:32 AM

My daughter just did a jungle quilt for a friend's new baby. She fussy cut the animals and built the quilt around it. It came out fantastic! You could build each block to end up with 12" blocks even if the center picture is a different size. Good luck!

Dee 11-10-2010 12:22 PM

I like it.

Annz 11-10-2010 07:30 PM

Lovely fabric.

Make blocks with the birds too. Just add sashing around.

Sorry that I don't have any ideas, but I love the fabric. Keep us posted on your progress. :-)

Baloonatic 11-11-2010 06:02 AM

A local quilt teacher has come up with this method of framing a fabric you don't wanna cut... hmmm, isn't there a term for that? Anyway, would this work?

I like this idea. You could use the colors in this fabric and do a log cabin or some other neat pattern. Then your quilt would be reversible!

pojo 11-11-2010 06:09 AM

If you could I would fussy cut the blocks out and put a border around each block.

Beautiful panel.

Nancylou 11-14-2010 07:30 AM

Beautiful fabric! I vote to not cut it. Pick out some colors in the quilt for boarders and do some quilting around the animals. Don't forget to post your finished quilt. I know it will turn out great! :-)

Sweeterthanwine 11-14-2010 08:58 AM

Thanks to all of you for your wonderful ideas. I just have to put my thinking cap on and decide what I want to do. Decisions, decisions. Thanks again.

Annya 11-28-2010 11:28 PM

Could you cut the blocks into different sizes and add borders to make the, the same then maybe set them on point or use a row around as a border for something else?

I think it would look awesome to cut and surround it with blues & browns. Also cut the birds in the center out into squares too.... Please be sure to post pics when your finished, can't wait to see what you create.

Sweeterthanwine 11-29-2010 09:43 AM

I'm still working on the quilt top. When I get it finished I will post a picture of it.
