I just finished this and would like suggestions on what borders to put on it?

(I tried to send this earlier and it got lost in space, but if it has appeared already, please forgive me....)

I am really bad at visualizing final results, so I really appreciate any input anyone can provide. I am pretty sure I want one border to be blue. I have also thought of red, green, black, orange, and even the cat fabric. I have laid all of these out and looked at them, and I have finally decided I need additional opinions. (I already have my sister's and husband's...and their suggestions are good, but I am ready for more input...please.)

If you want a colored inner border, I would either make it blue (the color you have the least of on the edges) or a totally different color. What is the background color of the cat fabric? If it's a darker blue or a black, maybe that. Then you can make a wider border of the blue or if you use the blue as an inner border, make a wider border of another fabric. I like a narrow (like 1" or 1.5") inner border and then a wider outer border but that's just me.

i would use some of that great focus fabric and maybe start with a smaller of the blue or green

Oh wait. Another option is a narrow inner border of one of the non-blue/green/white colors taken from the cat fabric. Like the red, orange, yellow, etc. btw I love this quilt. I love designs that look like that-interlocked and such.

The background of the cat fabric is black.

Yes, I like a narrow inner boarder and a wider outer border.

I just laid out a narrow blue border with a larger cat fabric border. That isn't bad...

If I could be so bold (when am I ever not?)as to offer up my opinion, I think a narrow black border then a larger blue.

I tried the narrow black with a larger blue as my first. choice. I really wanted to like that, but I didn't.

Then what about the narrow black with a larger focus border?

Dina 02-09-2011 01:43 PM

Hmmm, I will go try that. Thanks for thinking for me!

That's what I was thinking. Like a thin yellow border then either blue or green.

I was thinking of a white small inner border, then a larger border of one of the colors of the quilt, or even one of the colors of the cats.

Love the quilt! Love the kitties!

I think your blue in a narrow border followed by the cat print in a wider border. Its a very pretty quilt, will be nice however you finish it.

It is called What Knots? made by the staff at Creations SEWClever, Cillicothe, Ohio. (I copied that from the book.) I got it from a book called Mysery Quilts by Rita Fishel.

This is the third quilt I have made of this pattern, and I really like the finished products. It is the "deciding" that bogs me down....which fabric, which border, which binding....
:)

That's a beautiful quilt!! :D

I would pick up the yellow for a narrow inner border, and use the black for a slightly larger border to frame it all. That would visually balance the three major colors.
