I have ab idea in mind to try but I don't know what to do.

I want to make the attic window pattern and put a scene "in the window". How do I cut the scene? If it has horses or other animals or people in it, how do I cut and place it so as to not make it look "goofy"? Will it look right if I just place the scene blocks between the attic frame blocks or do I have to adjust the scene blocks somehow?

I guess this is what I get for trying to do a project from my head and not a pattern. Just don't want to ruin a panel attempting to find out. HELP!!!!!!!!

Here is a modified shadow box that I did as a wall hanging. Let your creative spirit soar, don't let yourself be boxed in by convention.

I have problems visualizing sometimes too. I have a vague idea in my head, but I need to "see" it to figure it out.

I would try laying out the panel, and use some scrap strips or even paper strips to place the sashing bars where I think they line up the best on the panel scenes, and mark where to cut the panels for best fit into the windowpanes.

I've never made one but love the ones people have made (i.e., looking at a garden, one lady here had one of horses running.) Can you post a picture of the fabric? I'm not sure that I'd be much help to you but maybe a 'visual' can make it easier for others to help you out.

My dentist's office has an amazing quilt that is done with the attic windows and a scene. The way my dentist's mother did it is to fussy cut areas of the scenery you are using so that it is a bit staggered so that it will look like it's one continuous window instead of distinct repeats if that makes sense.

You can do it two ways. Make a template out of some kind of see thru plastic and mark each blocks from the fabric to get just the motif you want OR
Just take your fabric and mark off in grid and don't worry about where the cuts are. I did this one time and it wourked out very well. You don't notice that a monkey's head is cut etc.
