Need Help from someone who glue bastes quilts
 

I am going to try this method to put my quilt sandwich together but I need to know if the backing needs to be the same size as the quilt top or does it need to be larger? Same with batting? Appreciate any and all answers. Sandy

I have used this technique twice. One quilt was a baby quilt and the second a lap size throw quilt. I made the backing larger than the quilt top, about 2.5 inches all around. The batting was cut to the same size as the backing. I put the batting on the table with the center line marked. I folded the backing in half and placed it on top in the correct alignment to the center of the batting. This works best with another person. Then I stRted applying the school glue to the batting A bit at a time folding the quilt back over and smoothing it down as I went along. After giving this time to dry I turned the whole thing over and repeated it with the quilt top. It was easy to quilt and the glue washes out.

I cut my batting and backing about 2 inches bigger all around. You may not think
you need it but things tend to shift while you're basting and quilting. Easier to trim
down than add on...if you know what I mean.

your batting and backing should always be larger than the top- then after the quilting process are squared up/trimmed to all be the same size for binding...the reason for this is just like with embroidery & applique blocks the stitching process draws up the fabric some- so you always start a bit larger then trim to size when done
