I was just given a large bag full of 100 % wool fabric and I am thinking about making a wool quilt. I have only worked with cotton and cotton blends and not sure what I need to do with all this wonderful material.
What kind of batting and backing is best to use with the wool top? I plan on making the top by machine piecing it and hand quilting it.

My grandmother used to make "winter quilts" or what she called "comforters" out of old suits, etc.. so they would be wools and corduroys. She almost always used a postcard for the pattern and cut "bricks" of fabric then laid them out like a brick wall.
she would use a thick bat, then back them with flannel.. these comforters were always tied, and let me tell you, you've never slept under anything warmer.
Good luck with your project.

My Grandma had those, too! They are so heavy you can barely turn over!!

Sounds wonderful to me. I need a warm quilt for my bedroom.
