Ok quilters, I need some help. I have just been in contact with a man who wants to sell 2 featherweights and a spartan sewing machine to me for $60. The 2 featherweights are in tables but have no accessories with them and he is not sure if they work. One has some rust. The serial numbers of the fw are AH475074 and C6086868 (he was not sure of the second d/t rust on the plate). Are these worth it?? It would be about an hours drive for me. He is willing to sell just the fws for $40 for the 2. From the pictures they look pretty nice. I need opinions!

Wow, that's cheap! They aren't Featherweights though, they look like 15's to me.

I am no expert but I think FW all have the little fold down table attached to them? Perhaps someone else will give you a better idea of the value of the machines in the picture.

Serial # AH 475074 is a 66
Just guessing the C is really a G6086868 which would make it a 114 - the prefix determines where the machine was made so the G is a more logical choice for the area. Singer machines with the single prefix of C were made in Germany.
Neither would be featherweights.

It depends on you, really. They are not FW's but FW's aren't the only good vintage Singers. I have a 15, 66, 201 and 301- love them all. I had to use Billy's tutorial to clean the 66 and it was worth it to me. I paid 50.00 for that machine and no cabinet or anything.

If the serial numbers he gave you are correct:

the AH475074 is a 1948 Model 66

the G6086868 is a 1910 Model 66

ETA: oops! correction: not a 1910 Model 66 but a 1918 Model 114 as posted by Diamondrose.
