Ok, I am finally "finishing" my first quilt. I have lots of finished tops but this is the first to get to the binding stage. Does anyone sew on the binding (front and back) using a machine, and if so, how do you do it? I am not a hand quilter at all (I envy those with the patience for that) so I am trying to figure out how to attach it using the machine. I have the binding made and folded in 1/2 but now what? :oops: Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I you are going to do both front and back on your machine, you do it opposite of what you do when you hand stitch the back..

First sew it to the back, lineed up with the edge of the quilt, using your walking foot and sewing a 1/4" seam..

Then bring it around to the front and top stitch it down with your machine.. again use your walking foot... You can match thread color to the binding on the top and if you want, use invisilble thread in the bobbin..

I know that there is another way to do this, too, but I dont care for the results as well...

Do a google search for attaching binding to a quilt. There are many websites with detailed instructions and videos showing how to to it.

I sew my binding to the top of the quilt, then fold it to the back. I pin it in the ditch making sure that the pin catches the binding on the back, then stitch in the ditch as close to the seam as possible. I think this looks much neater than stitching on the top of the quilt.

good morning, what I do is .. I line my binging strip on top of the quilt and sew with a quarter inch seam, then i turn it over.. pin in place with mitered corners, and hand stitch it down, with hidden stitches, because i do not like the stitches to show.

I use a walking foot to attach binding to the front of the quilt using 1/4 in seam. Dont cut off your backing or batting yet, do that after you sew it on. Iron your binding seam flat on front. Now fold it over to back of quilt.
I dont pin since I discovered Fons and Porters glue stick. It works very well to hold the binding down and hasnt gumed up my machine.
If you prefer use pins or clips or even steam a seam to hold binding in place. Be sure and cover the stitch line with the binding.
Then on the front of quilt stitch in the ditch to finish binding. I like to use a stitch in the ditch foot but a walking foot works ok.
Do you know how to do the corners? If not it is too hard to explain without pictures. You can find instructions on line, try QuiltersTV, they have lots of videos.
