Need Help
I just finished binding a quilt for my sister and now realize I should have made it a little bit bigger. Is there anyway to add on to it without having to take the binding off? I don't have enough of the border material , but I do have some other material I used for sashing that I could use. What would you do? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It would be easier to give her this quilt as is and start making her another one that is bigger.

Sounds impossible, a bit bigger wouldn't be worth the trouble...I am sure it would be welcomed as is .
|
What size did you make , and how much bigger do you want to make it? If you need it a lot bigger, then it would be better to just make a new one.

I had a quilt given to me that was just a few inches short of meeting the top of my bedskirt. The quilt was pastel and very sweet so what I did was get some white eylet material, made a 4 inch ruffle and stitched it to the back of the quilt in the ditch of the binding. It looked like it was supposed to be that way and I got to use my quilt.

If it's long enough to put under the pillows a ways you could make a bed runner to cover the pillows.

I've ripped out miles and miles of stitches. I'd take the binding off and never think a thing about it. |
I have taken off binding on a few quilts for several reasons, one I just didn't like the binding color, and the other was to replace an block and ... do what you have to because you won't be happy until you do.,..

you could add another border making the original binding look like a flange or piping. in this case, i would make the second binding just like the first.

a long while ago a member posted a picture of a quilt that she made bigger I don't think she took the binding off and it looked wonderful maybe she will see your post and give you some tips.

Just wanted to offer my sympathy. Things like this are so frustrating.

I would remove the binding and add what you need to get the size you want. Doesn't take that long and you will be happier in the long run with it done right. Just rip it while watching TV a couple of evenings....
