I did this pattern from the illusion quilt that Jenny did. It was the remainder of the squares from that set of 10" squares that don't like. However I think I am going to loose the illusion effect unless I do a very dark final strip. What do you suggest . Thank you for lookinghttp://www.quiltingboard.com/attachm...d=495571&stc=1

yes, that pattern works better with a dark 'shadow'. but you can make it as shown and it does not have to be called the illusion, or shadow, quilt. it's just a quilt of your own design :)

alternately, you can use the red squares as cornerstones with the white sashing... you'd just have to piece the sashing.

Yes I think you have "lost" the illusion of a shadow using that combo.....wonder if you flipped them and added a dark strip on the other side and readjusted a bit you could create another illusion of sorts?

Try some background sashing the color of your corner squares.

Since a shadow should be darker than the top piece, the white fabric doesn't work for a shadow but as mentioned you can name it something else.

Jenny's illusion quilt works because our brains see dark lines as shadows. Your white shadows come to the forefront of our vision process. Give it a new name or add some other sashing. What was the purpose for this quilt. If for family TV viewing or charity, I wouldn't stress over it.

I just watched the video. Where you sewed white should have been grey. She used the white in the sashing to be the background. I would take the burgundy fabric and insert it as the sashing to see if you like the look. Thanks for posting.

I ordered the gray fabric from MSQ and it's perfect for this pattern. To get the illusion you have to use a shadow color.
