Need Help Twister Quilt and figuring out size...
 

Morning Everyone...I found this free pattern from Missouri Quilt company http://blog.missouriquiltco.com/brea...-twister-tool/. How does one figure out the size it will be If I were to use 5" squares or 10" squares. Here is what it calls for: Border 3", White Squares 85, Light Pink 33 squares, Dark Pink 38 squares. I would like to make this quilt for our breast cancer auction next year. I have both twister rulers for the 5" and 10" squares.

Does it not tell you what the finished size will be? Most patterns usually do. I just finished a 10"size and used 56 blocks. 7across and 8down with a large border and it turned out to be Queen size.

No the pattern doesn't say. It was just a free one on their site and no mention of size....

on this free tut, the poster started with 144 [12x12] 5" squares which would start at 60x60"
she states that her final size is 42x42. maybe this will give you an idea of your final size

The smaller twister tool (the one that you would use with 5" squares) is 3.5", so the cut blocks finish at 3". The tool is positioned on the seam between the charms. So if you have 2 charms, you can cut 1 twister. If you have 3 blocks you can cut 2 twisters. In other words, you can cut 1 less than the number of blocks you have joined.
So if you start with 17 blocks, you can cut 16 twister blocks that finish at 3", yielding a 48" quilt. Note that if you add a border before you cut, this counts as a block on each end. the borders can be cut smaller than the 5" charms because the tool only cuts part of the starting and ending block.
You can apply the same calculation to the larger tool measure it (I think it's 6.5"), subtract the half inch seam allowance, and use that in the calculation.
