Hope someone has a suggestion. I am trying to make a wall hanging with a women in it.( no pattern) How do I do the head? I tried sewing material around it, no good, and I do not want to applique it. Any suggestions?

Would thread painting work? Or maybe a heavy line drawing using thread and your sewing machine?

Can you post a photo so we can help? Some of us are more visual and we might be able to better help by seeing it.

Do a search on the internert for photo, women head, print it off in black and white so you can get a feel for the light dark and shaddows, shape etc. Reduce and enlarge to meet your needs( do be mindful of copy right issues) . Fisrt create the outine or shape , add pieces of fabric over the top using the photo/copy as a guide underneath. Use thread painting for the final detail and dimension.
I had a similiar issue trying to do hands... I found a site that had hands in all different postions.

I don't have a pic. I wanted to do a quilt with women in it (kind of like Sunbonnet Sue) . I can figure out the arms, legs , and clothing but how do you do the head? Hope someone can help.

Well, you could do like Sunbonnet Sue- hide the head!

How about paper piecing or picture piecing (like Cynthia England does)?
