Need help with WWII quilt.

I have a 70 year old quilt that my gma made into a bedroll for my Dad to take with him into the Pacific Theatre during WWII. I washed it this week (gasp) and it came out beautifully. It is made out of flour sacks used in the depression. I would like it to be the center point of a patriotic quilt I'm hoping to make. After unpicking and a little cutting it is about 63"x20" at one end and 63"x31" at the other end. The smaller end was for his feet. Anyone have a clue how I can expand it to put on my kitchen table? The size of the finished quilt needs to be 70"x90". Thanks for any help! :)

well just add to the skinny sides to make it look wonky. actually leaving more width on the skinnier area and less on the wider. Then add more blocks if you like to get to your size. Sounds like it will be cute!

I like Nativetexan's idea!! A cool, deliberately wonky quilt, showcasing what your grandmother did would be awesome! If you want to make sure the flour sacks are highlighted, you could put a solid 2.5" border around it before you proceed with the wonky! You could also make some cool blocks (churn dash maybe) for the border...have fun resurrecting this heirloom!!
