What would be a good rate to charge for making a quilt out of someone's old clothing? A very small lady and I have 4 shirts and 3 pair of pants and not sure they will be usable. A lap sized quilt.

you can always charge by the hour.

Depending on the fabrics and if you have to stabilize them(such a t shirt fabric) and the pattern I always get between $150 and $200 for throw size memory quilts and thats bottom line.

They are cotton shirts not t shirts but but dressy 3 long sleeve and one short. The pants I'm not sure are goig to work. One pair is polyester, one stretch jeans, one heavy khaki and a cordurory jacket.

I cut out parts for the 7 shirt quilt but didn't read all the directions so I had to change and go a different way. Was too late to do the 10 minute blocks. Will post a pix when I get it done.

I have some men's shirts I want to turn into a quilt so I am anxious to see how yours turns out.

The one I am making is from regular clothing and the lady was a size 2 so not a lot in each piece. Here is the top and I am now ready to sandwich, quilt and bind. Still haven't got my mind wrapped a round a price to charge but I do know it was a lot more work than a quilt from yardage fabric. The textures are all so different. I would love to have had 2 more of the big white squares but the blouse just wasn't big enough so had to use another blouse.

you need to figure out how long it will take you and decide what your time is worth. i charge $20 an hour for sewing when people bring me things to sew for them. when i make quilts for sale they are priced according to cost of materials (all materials used to make a quilt start to finish) and i keep track of my time then i decide on the best price for that quilt

it turned out great by the way! i can't wait to see it all done-done! it is a challenge to work with cut up clothing but it is also a great way to get fabulous fabrics you can not find in fabric shops....think about that the next time you are 'browsing' a thrift store :thumbup: now that you've made one --
