Our dear friends are celebrating their 50th anniversary in November. I have some of their wedding photos and other photos of them and their family and friends over the years. I want to make a wall hanging (40-50 in sq) with photos but am having a terrible time coming up with a design.

They live in Arizona and their house is decorated in very 'south west' colors. I'm thinking something with gold an other neutrals so that they can hang it anywhere.

Any and all ideas will be appreciated.

I would go with an "Indian" inspiration type of quilt built around the photo blocks. maybe a large star burst in the middle where the center block is a double photo of them today and their wedding photo. and then in each corner a photo of them with a baby, don't know if they have kids but the photo of them with their child is always good. then disburse different photos around the the quilt. I hope that this makes since. batiks would make this more about the photos and less about the fabric prints. and if you use the light colors of batiks that would make it more southwest.
i am not sure how well you are at quilting but you could always do a pueblo scene and "hide" the photos in different areas of the quilt so that as they look at the scene they see their life in photos. just a suggestion.

Do you have any special memories that you could make a special block to represent? For example you went camping and saw a bear, so add a bear paw block. You went to see the cherry blossoms in Washinton and you include a block with appliqued cherries. She collects dolls so include a Sunbonnet Sue block.

Southwest colors are turquoise, pinks, browns, beige, reds, orange, greens. I looked for some samples on the net, but came up with only words, not the colors. It's not just one color, but the combination that screams 'southwest'.

I, too, love southwest colors. They are rich and bold.

Good luck on your project and post pics, please.
