Need ideas for 1st big girl bed

It's so ironic..I have a thousand quilts I want to make on my bucket list, but I can't decide what I should make for my 1st GD's big girl bed! Her parents haven't decided yet if they are buying a full or a twin. They like pastels and bright pastels and no themes/characters (ie disney, frozen Ect). I'd like it to be special (of course lol) but not overly difficult and definitly durable. I have a thousand ideas, but nothing that seems to be IT. I would love any ideas! Im overwhelmed and I think I may be trying to hard. Thank you for any suggestions or pictures!

I love the Irish Chain too. How old is your granddaughter? Even though the parents don't want a theme what does she want? When my girls were 3 years old they knew what they liked and it didn't matter what my DH & I wanted. So I would plan a quilt for your DGD.

Her parents are painting her room in a blush pink but are leaning toward the brighter pastels for the rest of the room.
She just turned two and when I ask her what she likes she names every single color! She isnt a girly girl, I don't think.....She still is so young. And mom wants it feminine without being "too sweet".... Grrrr I'm lost.

I made a Sunbonnet Sue quilt for my daughter's first Big Girl bed. It was all in pastels. When she turned 11, she asked for something more age appropriate, even tho she kept the old one for "cuddling"" on the couch. Don't have a camera, so can't show a picture. Good luck with your decision. She'll certainly come to love it----it's made with love from Grandma after all.

So many pattern to decided on and you must choose a pattern that won't be too difficult for your quilting skills. I would look at Eleanor Burns QIAD website since she has many books with very good simple instructions. LOVE the fabric from Fatquartershop that quiltsRfun posted. So Shabby Chic!!

do they like modern or traditional? i love all of the suggested ideas. My favorite non-themed is a water color quilt. it can bring in those other bright pastels that are planned.

Here are a couple that use a lot of color and can be interesting. One I call "Pipe Dream" after the Game Boy. The other is just squares that I named "Four Patch Surrounded".
