The quilt is basted. All the girls showed up even though I couldn't do much. I brought all the supplies and the treats I promised. Didn't take longer than 20 minutes to baste it all.

I discovered I'm not very good at quilting with any finger that isn't currently stitched. My stitches are supposed to come out on Monday...so I'll find out then how long before I can use it full time. The splint should come off soon too. I'm at 4 months and counting! I gotta get to work!

Happy to hear some good news.

Well...the stitches are out and I have all the feeling in my finger and hand. That being said, once the stitches came out, it kinda went south from there. The stitches didn't hold in a couple spots very well and it popped open as soon as I bent my finger. I could just about cry.

It didn't hurt as bad today as it did yesterday. I'm wrapping it tight with a bandaid and some neosporin. I've been spending some time on google trying to figure out how long it'll take for it to seal on it's own with a tight bandage on.

Needless to say, I'm still not quilting my quilt and now that August is here, it's crunch time. 4 months and counting and I better get to work. I might just have to grin and bear it and learn how to quilt another way. I can't sit indefinitely without being able to quilt. The last week and a half or so was bad enough. So, aside from being really cranky, I guess I'm ok. Just kinda irritated at how this all worked out.

have you talked to your doctor about it? if the laceration, cut, is open then it will probably have to heal from the inside out. you don't want to end up with a pocket of infection. i don't know how large the cut is or how big its open, how deep, but sometimes an incision or laceration that reopens has to be packed during dressing changes.

sorry it that sounds scarey. check with the doc would be my recommendation.

I did check with the doc and am not thrilled with his non chalant "it'll take a while" answer. There isn't really room for a pocket of anything. It's a small cut, just deep. You can't see way down to the bone or anything...I'm just irritated with the flap. It's a flap of skin that won't grow shut. I am just so damn irritated. I'm going to get my quilt stuff out tonight and at least make an attempt.

well, i'm glad you talked to the doctor even if it didn't make you feel any better about it. i guess it will be an exercise in patience. i'm don't like that kind of exercise!

Tupperware has a can opener that cuts the side of the can. It can NOT cut you. Both the top and side are not sharp.

I'm back to quilting again! FINALLY!!! After my stitches came out, I had some complications healing. It just further delayed my stitching, which only further fueled my frustration with the whole bit.

I started out with a bandaid under my thimble and I don't even need that yet. I'm so behind, I'm trying to quilt on it 2 hours at least each day.

My stitches started out big and not at all similar to eachother. Now they are smaller and more consistent. If I have enough time, when I get to the end I'll rip out the stitches in the first couple blocks and redo it.

My finger doesn't look horrible and it's only a little bumpy now. People don't even see it unless they remember the splint on and want to see it. It does look like I wrote a capital T on myself.

And my boys think it's cool I'll have a scar.
