Need ideas for small space working
 

I am currently living in a 5th wheel RV and have so many WIP's I'd like to finish& a twin size quilt that I promised my granddaughter that I'd have done by July. I am in an extremely remote area, so there is no place to go to set up anything, i.e: no community center, no church, etc. Space is a premium commodity. I thought about working outside, but there are way too many critters and insects lurking about to make it feasible. I'm looking for any ideas from anyone that will help me get these jobs done. Any takers?

I would just jump in with both feet and get things done one at a time. I am not in a small area, but I, too decided to get my ufo's done. I have 2 ready to quilt. One was kind of large and I had trouble sorting out the blocks. I tried to do it on a bed, but the bed was too small. I had to pick up something at the LQS and I mentioned the trouble I was having. The owner offered to let me use the classroom at the shop when there wasn't a class using it. Maybe something like that can help you. Another thing that is a possible help is a local library. Sometimes they let you use a conference room to lay out your project. Hope you can find a solution to your "space" problem. Good luck. The only other thing I can think of is to get a can of bug spray that covers a large area and work outside. What are you doing in the middle of nowhere? Just curious.

Can you put a plastic dropcloth over two picnic tables pushed together and pin baste, etc. outside? No, that won't work because you'd pin the dropcloth to the quilt back. You'd have to have clean freshly painted picnic tables for pin basting. But the picnic tables would give you some space for other parts of the quilting process, especially if you could locate them under a tarp or roof of some kind for shade and rain protection. Just thinking....

How remote are you? Is there a library nearby that might have an empty room with tables you could use for basting? I'm going to assume since they are WIPS, that maybe the tops are pieced & you are looking to get them quilted.

I do know there are some ladies who piece in an RV. Fabric can be stored in totes under the bed, cutting mat goes under the mattress, sewing machine is on dinette, until you need to eat. LOL

I live in an RV with no pull outs. I sometimes put a large cardboard over the bed to sandwich things and I use one or two wood TV trays depending on what I'm doing. I sit in my recliner (upright) to sew with my machine on one TV Tray & if I'm working on a bigger quilt, I set up a second beside it to take up the weight. I'm working on a table runner right now that's too long for one, so I spread my two cutting mats over the two tables & set it on that. Our stove has a cover that's about 15" x 18" & that's where I do my cutting. I used to put a plastic table cloth over our picnic table, but it's worn out and not a flat surface any more.

Have you thought about getting one of those screened rooms sort of like a tent to keep bugs and critters out I think they are called screeened dinning rooms

This was my first thought. With lots of bug spray around the perimeter.
