I have been asked by the LQS to teach a beginning quilt class. Would you suggest some ideas for what type of project I should start with. Keeping in mind, needs to be for a beginner.

my first class was a 9 patch with the 4 corners as HGT
By learning to do the squares and lineing up the intersection

My first instinct is to suggest a table runner and placemats. If the color choices remained consistent, they could be done in a variety of easy to progressively more involved blocks and make a lovely coordinated table setting.

That's exactly the path I have been considering.

I like a 9 patch for beginners. It's an easy quilt, they learn alot like pressing, matching seams.....ect. Good luck. Show us your students projects....

It depends on how much time the class will involve. Is it just 1 session or multiple sessions. For a beginner - 1 session, I do a 9 patch potholder, so that they complete the quilt project from start to finish. Beginner's are so proud of that potholder if they made it on their own. A simple baby quilt or lap throw takes 4-5 sessions @ 1 hr. each.

I would like to suggest a bed sleeve/bed runner. It's a fun project that can be showcased as oppose to a lap quilt. Good luck!

My first class was a Snowball alternating with a 9 patch. I made mine into a doll quilt some people made theirs into table runners.
