Need Ides for Cheerful Fabric Colors
If you were making a quilt that would lift someone's mood. What colors of quilting fabric would you use in the quilt that are considered to be cheerful?
yellow would be in there.
I was going to say yellow also! Blue goes well with yellow. Red is my favorite color. I like a bunch of solid colors of Kona with white Kona background.
Yellows and reds, definitely. Orange could work, but some oranges are just irritating (in my opinion, but I'm not much of an orange person anyway). Bright blues and greens against bright white is a possibility as well.
Brights! Wouldn't matter so much which colors as long as they were bright and vibrant
Bright colors. Especially primary colors.
Do they have a special hobby or a favorite flower? Happy Daisy quilt comes to mind if they love flowers. |
Lots of brightly-colored patterned fabrics, like Kaffe Fasset's designs.
Blue and yellow together says cheerful to me.
Bright batiks!!! For a female, definately pinks, purples, teals, yellows. For a male, definately light blues, teals, yellows and greens!!!
All of the above,.........add a little lime too!
There is a line of fabrics called "Happy".
http://www.inthebeginningfabrics.com...i?product=hppy The second picture was made with the "Happy" fabric. It was a very cheerful quilt. http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...s-t128449.html |

I'd try my best to find out what their happy colors are. I love blue/green/purple but some don't. |

I take my cue from the person I'll be gifting the quilt to -- find out what colors their living room/bedroom is, be observant as to the colors they wear, and comments they've made in the past about things. It will be different for men and women. But I'd include more springtime colors - yellows, greens, & blues and add pinks/peaches for women (generally) and probably stick with those basic colors for men....if I didn't have any information to help me!
I would go with pastels in summery colors along with a few brights in the same color scheme.
SKy blue, sunshine yellow, grass green. And white
I cannot find out what the person likes because I am making quilts and quilted prayer shawls for my local hospital for the Behavioral Health Unit.

Your other quilts and wall hanging are nice also. |

Do you know if it's a he or she? OTOH, if you're donating to a cause, the person in charge could send it the right direction. Yellow/orange/red is cheerful, too. |
Scrappy with white is always cheerful.
Apparently colours shouldn't be too highly contrasting. Blue is soothing and peaceful. I like soft pinks and greens together, but that might be too contrasty...

I do love brights - they make me smile and I gravitate towards them when I want so do something to make someone smile. I just made another baby quilt - white on white background with lots of brights interspersed here :
http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...t-t223238.html another one - much older post but same types of choices in fabric here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...t-t134673.html |
Orange, yellow, and white made me smile while DS was going through his divorce.
Now, I'm gonna tell you something here that most people don't like. Qrange is considered the happiest of colors by people who do these kinds of studies. I iind it weird that most people don't like orange but used in the right way, is a fabulous color to add to a scheme of happy colors. Yellow, orange and white are fabulous together.

I seen a log cabin quilt the other day made in really nice bright colors. Each block contained a variety of solid reds, yellows, greens, orange blues, lt blues, lime green, red w/white dots, green w/white dots, red and white checks, and green and white check fabric. Each block had a white border with a white outer border with a yellow binding.

I ran across this quilt doing a google search on pink lemonade. Someone even commented on that thread how "happy" that quilt looked. I quite agree!!
Down further on the first page is a close up and a cute picture of the grand baby on the quilt. http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...d-t210113.html |
A zinger is orange or lime green. I use all colors together. Each day I like a different color. Hugs
Another good one I found recently is this one:
https://www.shopfonsandporter.com/pr...t/new-arrivals It has such a simple 2 block design that I was able to graph it myself without the pattern. I was able to find the same fabric as that in the image and it is very bright and happy. |
I think all "Warm" tones are happy...cool colors are calming. I think any shade that matches white instead of tan would be a happy color. The exception to that would be neon colors...those make me nervous.
Complementary colors, yellow and violet. Fully saturated, not tan or grey. Springtime fresh colors, like violets, anemone, daffodils, tulips.

I think of turquoise and salmon as a happy combination |
Look at Lauren Burch Flying Colors -- the humming birds, flowers and butterflies are a good focal fabric and you can work from there.
Spring colours are very optimistic- spring green, butter yellow, warm peachy pink and robin's egg blue, with white sashing. I find primary colours and brights a bit too harsh in some situations.
