In December, 2010, I purchased a Pfaff Quilt Expression 4.0 and after I sew on it maybe 3 to 5 hours, it starts knocking like it is about to throw a rod. Have taken it 3 times to dealer where purchased and their repairman heard it knocking 1 time, but he won't run it long enough to knock. Has anyone who owns this machine had any trouble? Thanks for your help.

I have this machine
I find it doesn't purr like most machines but I wouldn't call it knocking, but it definatly is not quiet, my dealer said it is because it's so big. ??? Sounds kinda dunb to me. A top of the line machine like that should be a smooth ride.
I hope you find the problem.

I have a Pfaff that's about 4 years old and it isn't quiet, but wouldn't say it knocks. If a needle isn't perfectly straight I can hear it hit the bobbin, but not sure if you would call it a knocking noise. It grinds when it needs oil.

This is not likely what you want to hear, but I have that machine and it runs very quietly. It gets a lot of use and it never knocks, always purrs. If the needle is bent or dull it will make a different sound. If I were you, I would pursue it.

i have a pfaff creative vision and that sucker sounds like a train is running. for the price i paid for that machine it should just purr. i had trouble with mine knocking to and took it in they found nothing, than it started to grind and took it back in and that time they sent it to the complany, witch turned out to be a long story but 3 mos. later i got a new machine back and this one to is very nosie and does not sew like i think it should . but im not going threw all the hasel again of sending it in till it dies.

Gee, those 4.0's sure seem to have problems and here I was wishing I could have a 4.0 instead of my 3.0 that is nice and quiet and so far, problem free!

Kitsie, do you know what sort of problems have been occuring with the 4.0? It sews really good for a few hours, then mine must start to heat up and it starts knocking really loud.

Search threads on the QE 4 here and on patternreview.com, which also has several owner reviews of this machine.

Sorry, I don't Kaye. Just have noticed from this board and general gossip that the 4.0 has lots of problems. Try a search on here for Pfaff. I remember reading that there were many problems when they were first introduced, but less now. There is a website for Pfaff owners you could check. I think a link is posted on one of the other postings here.

Who knows, my machine was turned in because owner wanted to upgrade to 4.0, so maybe mine has been repaired many times and is finally fixed! But haven't noticed reading about problems with it. Also there are sites that offer reviews of different machines so maybe you could google for that - "sewing machine reviews", I think.

Good luck!! Must be very frustrating!

PS Thanks Maia for that link.
Will check it out. Here it is:
