Somehow I can not get the inspiration to finish the quilts that I have started never mind starting my new ones. I just don't seem to have the push to sit down & sew. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Do a small project to get you in the mood to sew. Do a mug rug (the new mapleleaf ones on QB tutorials are cute),tablerunner/placemats, apron, hot pads etc. I like to do a few small projects between my big ones for quick rewards. Sometimes I clean and oil my machine between projects and get it working at it's best.

When I get that way I put sewing away for awhile and do something different. after awhile I see some pretty fabric or a quilt and I get in the sewing mood again. I think we get that way sometimes.

Join in one of the swaps where you have to finish by certain date...small project like "doll quilts"

Agree. Walk away. Do something else.

Thank you all!! Maybe the cooler weather will give me the push to go to my sewing room. Will let you know
|
Sounds to me like you just need the time away. It'll pass.

I am on a deadline and having the same problem of getting myself going. We just came back from Kauai, so I am still feeling a little jet lagged. I hope I can hit it this weekend! I think that is a good idea to make a mug rug. I love making those things! I would make them all the time if I had not committed myself to other things!!!

Walk away for a while and then you can get back to it.

On the other hand, if you've been working hard on projects for a while, maybe it's time to take a break and do something else. I'm a gardener, and I've enjoyed it all summer, and Boy! am I glad that the tough season is coming to an end! I'm ready to spend less time in the garden! On the other hand, I'll be raring to go next spring. Everything has its season. Go with the flow. |
I would ebb and flow on my sewing moods. The mood would strike and I would start sewing and buying fabric. Then it would leave me, and I wouldn't touch the stuff for months.
Now I work very part-time at a Hancock Fabrics (would have loved to work at a quilt shop, but don't feel qualified enough). It really keeps me in the mood to sew. I now sew all of the time. Probably at least three times a week. So maybe to take a stroll through a fabric store or your local quilt shop and see what's out there. It might work!! |
Choose one project and work one hour a day on the choosen project and soon it will be finished.

I am from (my mother's) old school. I simply tell myself to sit and work for 15 minutes. And, think of how good I'll feel to have it off the to-do list. Sometimes it works and I end up sewing a lot longer than the 15 minutes.
