need a little help from my friends/disappearing nine patch
 

my first time with this block 1) after you cut sideways and top to bottom.....and arrange them the way you like them......then, should each block thereafter (in the quilt) be arranged the same way? 2) how do I get the fabric I want to be in the center 3) how do I get it to look less scattered/ helter skelter like? I appreciate any help I can get with this. Happy New Year all and Happy Quilting.

Have you looked in the picture section in the albums? There are lots of quilts made with this block that may give you some ideas. I actually made one using one of the pictured quilts that I liked.

When you make the original 9-patch, if you keep the centers all the same color, they can create a secondary pattern. Whatever you put on the outer 4 corners of the original 9 patch remain same size squares and the other 4 pieces end up as rectangles.

Here are some pics of ones I did. In both, they were scrappy, but I kept the same colors in the same positions of the original blocks.

I completely understand how it can get confusing, the first time I did I looked all weird. And now I love it and I like doing a disappearing 9 patch and 4 patch they look just wonderful. I will say I break it up by doing a solid color. I would like a picture to see what you have done so far?

If I'm doing a controlled scrappy D9P, I plan the centers of each side which will be my "arms" so that they form a semi-consistent lattice pattern in the finished quilt.
